Industry Profile: Nick Seymour at Komondo

By AdNews | 20 May 2025

Nick Seymour.

Our Industry Profile takes a look at some of the professionals working across the advertising, adtech, marketing and media sector in Australia. It aims to shed light on the varying roles and companies across the buzzing industry.

Time in current role?

9 years.

How would you describe what the company does?

Komodo is a multi award winning social, content and influencer agency with offices in Sydney, London & Los Angeles. Our sweet spot is connecting brands, businesses and destinations with Gen Z and Millennial audiences through innovative, creative campaigns and initiatives that meet the people wherever they consume content. Whether it’s through social strategy, influencer activations, or content that stops the scroll, we help brands build meaningful connections with the next generation of consumers.

What do you do day to day?

No day is the same, literally! I wear many hats, but the majority of my time is spent on a mix of creative strategy for some of our larger clients, new business, and growth plans for the agency as a whole.

Define your job in one word

Dynamic.

I got into the industry because…

I co-founded a lifestyle brand that went viral during the early days of social media and influencer marketing. We found a winning formula for how we marketed our own products and brand - we were early adopters of influencers even before the term became mainstream. Our approach caught the attention of major brands, and that interest evolved into us implementing similar tactics and strategies for established brands. That journey naturally led to the creation of Komodo as an agency.

What’s the biggest challenge you face in your role

There aren’t enough hours in the day - or days in the week! Juggling the fast pace of the industry, the constant evolution of platforms, and running a growing agency across multiple time zones definitely keeps me busy, but that pace is also what keeps things fresh.

What’s the biggest industry wide challenge you’d like to see tackled?

One of the biggest industry-wide challenges I'd like to see tackled is the saturation of social media platforms and maintaining authenticity. With so many platforms and creators emerging, it’s becoming harder for brands and users to cut through the noise. The focus should shift towards creating and sustaining meaningful connections over simply chasing views and likes. Platforms that find a way to balance growth with genuine connection will lead the way forward.

Who has been a great mentor to you and why?

I wouldn't say that I have any direct mentors, but someone who’s influenced me throughout my journey is Umar Kamani, the founder of PrettyLittleThing. Watching how he built and scaled a brand that resonated strongly with a generation has been hugely inspiring. I'm also fortunate to have three incredible co-founders, each with different skills and strengths. We constantly learn from one another and, in many ways, mentor each other across different areas of life and business.

Words of advice for someone wanting a job like yours?

Persistence beats resistance! There will be a lot of knockbacks, rejections and failures along the way but if you believe in yourself and what you're doing, the hard work will pay off.

If I wasn’t doing this for a living, I'd be:

In another life before Komodo, I was a professional rugby player - although I'm now 34, so the likelihood of still doing that is pretty slim!

My philosophy is…

Always be the hardest worker in the room.

My favourite advert is…

I love everything the UK cereal brand Surreal does! Their tone of voice is spot on every time and I love how they inject humour into their marketing.

Music and TV streaming habits?

For music, I'm a big fan of afro-house (it’s having a moment), house and rap! When it comes to TV streaming, it’s how I often unwind in the evenings. I have subscriptions to everything you can imagine - Netflix, Paramount+, Amazon, Binge, Kayo, Stan. It’s my go-to way to disconnect before bed.

What do you subscribe to?

I subscribe to a lot of social and influencer marketing email lists,  competitors of Komodo ,and our clients. It’s the best way to stay informed on industry trends and track what’s happening across the competition.

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?

I speak French.

In five years time I'll be…

Co-founder of one of the world's best social, content influencer marketing agencies.
