Sydney’s 2GB lifted its share 1.2 to 12.8 and Ben Fordham Live surged 3 points clear of it’s nearest rival to a 15.6 share at breakfast.
In Melbourne, 3AW recorded a 14.1 share (-2.7). Breakfast with Ross Stevenson and Russel Howcroft outright No.1 with a 19.3 share.
Greg Byrnes, Nine’s national content manager, said these are great results, with more people listening longer right across the country.
“Sydney has embraced 2GB's new line up with big audience gains in all shifts and 3AW has maintained its dominance in Melbourne,” he said
“The line up changes in Perth and Brisbane are bedding in well with 6PR now the top rating talk station across the key day parts and 4BC posting a big increase in listeners.
“This survey shows people rely on talk radio during times of global and economic uncertainty and we're honoured to be Australia's source of trusted news, opinion and information
NOVA Entertainment CEO Peter Charlton said he was delighted with the consistency across every corner of NOVA Entertainment, maintaining its position as the most listened to metro network with 6.5 million listeners.
"To have the largest streaming audience of over 1.3 million people every week also reflects the continued success of our All of Audio approach," he said.
"In a period where all of our Breakfast shows have done well, Nova 106.9 in Brisbane is a particularly highlight having achieved Brisbane’s #1 Breakfast show in Ash, Luttsy & Nikki Osborne’s second survey together. Smooth FM has delivered another strong performance across the country, showing the power of bringing people together in music, with Smooth 95.3 once again the most listened to radio station in Australia.
"From broadcast to podcasts, streaming to live events, we continue to deliver at scale and with impact. This momentum reinforces our optimism for 2025, as our teams stay focused on connecting audiences and brands in the most trusted and engaging environments.”
Duncan Campbell, ARN chief content officer, said fifty consecutive surveys at number one in Sydney is an extraordinary achievement and a true reflection of Kyle and Jackie O’s enduring connection with their audience.
"While the show continues to dominate in its home market, we’re seeing positive signs in Melbourne, with two consecutive surveys showing strong increases in both awareness and audience," he said.
"This consistent growth since January is clear evidence that our strategy is working. We remain confident in the strength of the brand and the content.
“We’ve seen strong results right across the network – Christian O’Connell holding the #1FM breakfast spot in Melbourne is a brilliant result for GOLD104.3. It’s a credit to the creativity and consistency of Christian and his team, and their deep connection with Melbourne audiences.
"In Sydney, GOLD 101.7’s Jonesy & Amanda increased their share and remain the #2 FM breakfast show; KIIS 97.3’s Robin, Kip & Corey are also on the rise in Brisbane after the recent addition of Corey Oates to the team; Perth’s 96FM saw a rise in share across all key dayparts; and a special shout out to our new Adelaide team, Hayley & Max, who delivered a massive 1.8% share increase for Mix 102.3 Breakfast – the biggest in the market.
"A huge congratulations to our on-air and off-air teams whose exceptional work continues to drive audience growth and engagement. And to our loyal listeners – thank you. We look forward to continuing this momentum through the rest of the year.”
SCA’s chief content officer, Dave Cameron, said today’s Survey 2 results affirm the strength of SCA's national duopoly, with both the Hit and Triple M networks working together to command a dominant national Number 1 share for 30 surveys in a row in the 25-54 Audience That Matters.
"It’s particularly exciting to see some of our new local breakfast shows building early momentum with listeners, particularly Bernie & Emma G at SAFM in Adelaide, and Beau & Woodsy at Triple M in Sydney delivering the best audience cume result since Survey 5 2006. Triple M’s return to Number 1 in Brisbane is also a standout achievement and testament to the brand’s enduring local power, Triple M Adelaide breakfast with Roo, Ditts and Loz scoring 20 FM Number 1’s in a row, and we are pleased to see Triple M Sydney increase share across all dayparts.
"2025 is all about continuing our national leadership in the 25-54 Audience That Matters, anchored by our strong locally focused metro breakfast line-up of respected and established teams alongside our exciting new breakfast shows that launched this year.”Have something to say on this?
